Maria Leonor Nunes (MSc, PhD), principal scientist, is at the moment leader of Aquaculture and Seafood Safety at CIIMAR. She has strong experience on seafood preservation/processing and seafood quality and safety, including risk-benefit assessment and quality management. She has published >200 peer‐reviewed articles and >20 book chapters (H‐index 33; >3500 citations; ORCID 0000-0003-4393-2150). She has been involved in scientific and innovative projects from competitive funds, including 8 projects founded by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT) (4 as PI); 12 projects with national research funding (QCA3, MARÉ and PROMAR among others) (8 as PI); 15 European founded projects (COST, FAIR; AIR, LIFE, 5th, 6th, and 7th Framework programmes, Interreg Atlantic Area and H2020). She has supervised 8 post-docs, 24 PhD theses funded by FCT, 54 MSc students and several graduation students. She is member of research councils, advisory groups and editorial boards of scientific journals on food and technology areas. She has long experience in teaching activities, collaboration with seafood industry and industry associations and in the organisation of scientific and brokerage events for different stakeholders and general public.
